Viktor Kirčenkov

Horn player Viktor Kirčenkov was born in Gadjač, Ukraine in 1973. He received his musical education at the Lisenko School of Music in Poltava and at the Tchaikovsky Academy of Music in Kyiv, where he graduated in the class of Prof. Nikolay Yurchenko. In 1992, he won the first prize at the Ukrainian competition of young horn players.

From 1994 to 1996 he was a member of the Little Opera Theatre Orchestra in Kyiv, and in 1996 he became the principal horn player of the Kyiv Philharmonic.

He came to Croatia in 1998 at the Ivan pl. Zajc Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka, and since 1999 he has held the position of principal horn of the Zagreb Philharmonic. He is engaged as a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed as a soloist with the Zagreb Philharmonic, the Croatian Chamber Orchestra and the Rijeka Chamber Orchestra. He shows great interest in the works of Croatian composers and has premiered some of them (V. Gržinić: The Concertino for Horn and Strings, Zajčevi dani 2002, P. Dešpalj: Svečana parada).

Since 2002, he has been a member of the “XL” Tuba Quartet of the Zagreb Philharmonic.

He was engaged in pedagogical work as a horn teacher at the secondary and elementary School of Music in Karlovac.

He has performed with leading horn player Radovan Vlatković (R. Schumann: Konzertstück) and Boštjan Lipovšek, Simone Baroncini (R. Schumann: Concert movement for four horns and orchestra in F major, op. 86) and has improved his skills at master classes with R. Vlatković, E. Penzel, R. Horvath and W. Frodys.
