Marko Zupan
Marko Zupan lives and works in Berlin as a freelance artist, and as a solo flutist regularly collaborates with various international orchestras. He is a highly-sought after soloist and chamber musician and regularly performs at festivals all over Europe and the world.
He has performed in many famous concert halls around the world, such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Suntory Hall Tokyo, Wiener Musikverein, Konzerthaus Berlin, Slovenian Philharmonic, Gasteig München, Hanoi Opera House, Shanghai Oriental Art Center and Timisoara Opera House, among others.
He has recorded five CDs with soloist and chamber repertoire, and one CD of improvisation.
Zupan studied flute at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in the class of Prof. Matej Zupan, then in Paris in the class of Prof. Pierre-Yves Artaud (ENMP “Alfred Cortot”) and Prof. Georges Alirola (Conservatoire de Creteil), and later at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in the class of Prof. Irene Grafenauer. He has attended numerous master classes with world-renowned flutists, such as Aurele Nicolet, Peter-Lukas Graf, Felix Renggli and Emmanuel Pahud. As a student, he won numerous awards at national and international competitions.
He is engaged in teaching at seminars and master classes in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Japan, and since 2010 he has been teaching as an external associate at the Arts Academy in Split.
Edition Svitzer published Orchestral Flute Parts arranged for flute quartet, which serve as a pedagogical method for mastering the orchestral repertoire for solo flute. The edition is internationally recognized and praised by the world’s most famous flutists and flute teachers. With the desire to expand the flutist’s repertoire, he has premiered numerous compositions. In addition to that, he himself transcribes and arranges classical pieces from other instruments for flute.
Zupan is a professor of flute at the Arts Academy in Split, and the founder and artistic director of the International Music Festival “Ursus” (since 2013).
