ISTVAN MATAY
Istvan Matay was born in Miskolc (Hungary) in 1972.
He graduated from the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest in the class of Prof. F. Nemes.
As a student, he attended numerous solo, chamber and orchestral courses throughout Hungary, and in addition to his studies, he was engaged in a number of chamber music ensembles, the Symphony Orchestra of the City of Miskolc, Eger and Debrecen, and the Miskolc Opera Orchestra.
In 1996, he became the principal bassoon of the Osijek Croatian National Theatre Orchestra. He performs as a soloist with the Osijek Chamber Orchestra, and is also a member of the Osijek Woodwind Trio and teaches bassoon at Franjo Kuhač Music School.
In 1998, he took the position of principal bassoon of the Zagreb Croatian National Theatre Opera Orchestra, with which he has held several solo concerts. He has collaborated with the Zagreb Philharmonic, Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra, Croatian Chamber Orchestra, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, Rijeka Croatian National Theatre and Maribor Philharmonic, Croatian Baroque Ensemble and Cantus Ensemble. He is a member of the Zagreb Bassoon Quartet.
