Dejan Gavrić
Dejan Gavrić was born in Belgrade. He started playing the flute at the age of 11 and gave his first concert only a year later. From 1984 to 1988, he studied at the Faculty of Music of the University of Arts in Belgrade. There he received a scholarship that enabled him to study for the next 4 years at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen under Prof. Matthias Rütters. He graduated with honours in February 1991. As a student, he received the First Prize at the Folkwang-Hochschule Competition, as well as the Folkwang Advanced Award for his overall artistic achievements. In 1993, he completed the Konzertexamen (master’s studies) also with honours awarded by the entire committee. After completing his studies, he became a professor at the same Faculty.
In 1996 and 2001, Dejan Gavrić was the winner of the international competitions “Maria Canals” in Barcelona (Spain) and “Leonardo de Lorenzo” in Vigiano (Italy).
During his studies in Belgrade, he appeared as a soloist with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra and the Radio Television of Serbia Orchestra. He has performed at BEMUS as well as at the Summer Music Festival in Split. He has also made recordings for Belgrade Radio and Television. As a soloist and chamber ensemble member, he has performed in England, France, Spain, Austria, Italy, Germany, Japan and the US.
From 1996 to 1998, he was engaged as the principal flute of the Theatre and Philharmonic Orchestra in Essen, and then of the New Philharmonic of Westphalia. Since the 1999/2000 season, he has been engaged as the principal flute of the Philharmonic Orchestra and assistant to the principal flute of the Vienna Philharmonic Prof. Dieter Flyrij at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
Since 2002, he has been employed as Full Time Professor at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz.
