Filip Fak

Pianist and composer Filip Fak currently serves as the General Manager of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, an Associate Professor in the Department of Piano, Organ and Harpsichord at the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb, and the President of the Croatian Society of Musical Artists.

He completed his piano studies in 2005 at the Academy of Music in Zagreb in the class of Đorđe Stanetti, and went on to refine his skills at the Schola Cantorum in Paris in the master class of Eugene Indjic, earning the Diplôme de Concert with the highest distinction. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Croatia, across Europe, as well as in the USA, Mexico, and China, appearing with leading Croatian orchestras and ensembles (Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra, Zagreb Soloists, Cantus Ensemble, Zagreb Quartet) under conductors such as Klaus Arp, Pavle Dešpalj, Alun Francis, Aleksandar Marković, Adriano Martinolli, Ville Matvejeff, Aleksandar Kalajdžić, Luca Pfaff, Ari Rasilainen, and others. He has given numerous acclaimed recitals and chamber performances, appearing at prestigious events including the Music Biennale Zagreb, Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Lisinski Saturdays, HRT Master Series, Osor Musical Evenings, Music Evenings at St. Donatus, St. Mark’s Festival, the Diapason Festival, and more. In his solo repertoire he devotes particular attention to works by Croatian and contemporary composers. He has made numerous recordings for the Croatian Radio archive and released several albums. He is the co-founder and a member of the Rijeka Piano Trio, a long-time freelance member of numerous other ensembles, and an official pianist and artistic collaborator at international competitions and masterclasses. He is the recipient of numerous awards, notably the Milka Trnina Award for the best musical achievement of 2018. He also composes, focusing on works for piano and smaller chamber ensembles. He pursued postgraduate studies in electronic music in the class of Zlatko Tanodi at the Academy of Music in Zagreb.

Since 2021 he has been a member of the Cultural Council for Music at the City Office for Culture and Civil Society of the City of Zagreb; since 2024 a member of the Professional Examination Board of the Education and Teacher Training Agency under the Ministry of Science and Education; and since 2025 a member of the Management Board of HUZIP (the Croatian Performers’ Rights Protection Society). During 2021–2022 he also served as the Artistic Director of the Opera of the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka.
