Jan Ostry was born in Prague, where he studied at the Prague State Conservatory (F. Malotin). From 1992 he studied at the CNR de Versailles (Ch. Rayneau) and from 1996, he was a grantee of the French Goverment at the CNSM de Lyon, in the class of Ph.Bernold, where he was unanimously awarded the First Prize in 1999. In the course of his studies he visited masterclasses under the leadership of B. Kuijken, K. H\u00fcnteler, J. Zoon, A. Marion or K. Zoeller.<\/p>\n
As a soloist or a member of chamber music ensembles he performed in several countries in Europe and also in various festivals – Styriarte in Graz (founded for projects of N.Harnoncourt), with Kammerakademie Postdam and V. Luks, Haydn Festspiele in Eisenstadt, Prague Spring Festival, for the Dutch Radio in Concertgebouw Amsterdam, International Flute Festival in Maastricht, St. Wenceslas Music Festival in Ostrava, Festival ORF \u201eEggenberger Schlosskonzerte\u201cin Graz, Concentus Moraviae (with Prague Philharmonia and J. Belohlavek), Week of Pierre Boulez in Lyon (with P. Boulez), Czech Haydn Festspiele, Martin\u016f Fest in Wien, Czech Season in France, Festival of Pierre Boulez in St. Etienne,
\nCzech Beethoven Festspiele and many others \u2026
\nJan Ostry recorded CD\u2019s with chamber music of A. Rejcha and J. L. Dusik for the label Studio Matous (won The Critics Prize \u2013 \u201eTip Harmonie\u201c), flute quartets by J.J.Ryba for Naxos, chamber music of Bach\u2019s sons, complete of Bach\u2019s sonatas for two flutes and Haydn and Stamic trios with
\nH. Schmeiser for Nimbus Records.
\nDuring the concert season 1999\/2000 Jan Ostr\u00fd was a substitute as
\nthe solo-flutist in Orchestre National de Lyon and in the season 2001\/2002 the solo-flutist in Den Norske Operaen in Oslo.
\nSince 2001 he has been regulary teaching at masterclasses of the European Flute Academy in Fiss and from 2003 at the Kulturtage in Neuberg.
\nIn this time, he is teaching at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversit\u00e4t in Wien (classe with K.-H. Sch\u00fctz), at the State Conservatory in Prague and at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Ostrava.<\/p>\n
